Each House has a tale to Tell – Script your Own

Have you ever wondered why is it that you fall in love with certain houses while others do not appeal? Why is it that while passing through a particular stretch of road in your city, you look out for a house, just for the pleasure of seeing it? This is because each house is a visualization of your imagination – a story that you want to tell.
We were in Delhi then; a decade back. On bus route 481, I would wait for a certain stretch of tree-fringed avenue, looking out for a red-tiled house with huge Gulmohur trees that burst out in orange flames. The house reflected a joie de voir, which I, a stranger, passing by, could sense. How nice it would be if our homes could reflect that joy of living?
A friend, as good fortune would have it, owned a rubber plantation in Changanassery, down south. The one-storey wooden house, atop the hillock, surrounded on all sides by the plantation, was in a world of its own. The nearest neighbour, in daytime was not visible; at night a distant light on another hill-top let you know that you were not alone in this world. That house had tales that ranged from the funny to the scary. During Christmas, when the family congregated, the children often got lost in the surrounding woods, so vast was the estate. The huge teak-wood table, marked over the years by names of cousins, bore stories of noisy meal times. How ‘chachi’ ran all over the courtyard to catch the chicken for lunch became stories that got recounted over the years. The house had tales of its own and the people who lived in it. How would you like to script such a story?
When we moved into this city, I was keen on staying in a bungalow, an option that was not achievable in the metros. Our otherwise nondescript house became famous as ‘palm tree-wala makan.’ This was, however, not planned. When we rang in for home delivery, food or otherwise, we initially used landmarks such as known shops, nursing homes and the ubiquitous tutorials of the city. However, over a time, as we became ‘regular,’ the person at the other end of the line would invariable say, “woh palm tree-wala makan?” and we would eagerly agree, thankful that no more explanations were needed. Those seven palm-trees in the small patch of garden, struggled with each other for scarce water and sunlight, made us walk warily under them with the danger of a dry branch breaking off, but gave an identity to the 20-year old weather beaten house and to us, who occupied it for sometime.
Would it not be nice if your dream home came to be identified with your choice and liking, the fern in your garden, the splash of colour from the Bougainville that curled round your balcony, the ornate gate and Victorian lamp posts that adorn your garden? You have now the chance to write your own script; let your house tell the tale that you dream of.

A Helping Hand is here – Make Sure you hold on to the Opportunity

Life teaches us to tend to our own; whether through trials and tribulations or through efforts and experience. However, a helping hand, in our daily life, sounds good, doesn’t it? It makes life smoother, helps us negotiate the bumps better and provides a support that eases out seemingly mundane but in reality paralyzing situations.
Our neighbour is a high-ranking government official, whom when we first met, seemed unsure if he wanted to leave his spacious government bungalow and shift to a flat, albeit his own. I didn’t quite comprehend his hesitation, being excited myself. However, over a series of interactions, I realized that a lifetime of facilities as simple as securing a helping hand for malfunctioning pipes, wires and bricks, was the source of this conflict. Would life not be a dream run, if today you get the option of such a helping hand?
Life is like a maze; however unlike a maze no turn can be defined definitely as right or wrong, for the simple reason that everything in life is a relative concept. Our sense of comfort, safety, success, happiness, honesty and most other oft used parameters differ from one to the other. For me comfort may be taking a shower, while for someone it is getting the five buckets of water each day. For me happiness may be the cool comforts of my air-conditioned office, while for someone it may be just getting a job with an adequate salary.
Human beings are the most adaptive creatures in this world and that is why we have survived all the odds to evolve and develop. However, this very maze would become more negotiable and less daunting with some road signs at crucial junctures, which help you in your journey. Today, if someone cares enough to lend you that helping hand, is it not the right decision to take the opportunity?
I was in office, when my mother who had ventured out of the front door, to deposit the garbage bag, got shut with a blast of wind that decided to blow just then. I had to come all the way from office to resolve the situation. Another day, another city and the kitchen tap came loose from its hinges. Another house, another individual and another such story! Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Everyday things, though small, are important enough to temper with your work and leisure moments.
A friend, who had spent a lifetime in the US, was back. They had always lived in societies that were run like companies, with in-house offices that took care of all your house related problems. She was pleasantly surprised when she learned that today that same facility is available right here, right in this city! Would you not like to avail of such an opportunity?

Move away from the Crowd – Reach out to Your Senses

Has it not happened to you time and again, when some vision of beauty and serenity has flashed by and made your soul restful? When a holiday spent away ‘from the madding crowd’ has raised the desire for a home nestled in cozy silence?  When the wind blowing through a pine forest or waves lapping at the shore has evoked strong memories of blissful solitude? The option of having such a home may not be a romantic desire anymore.
I remember summer evenings from my childhood, spent sitting in my own private nook, under the overhanging jasmine bush, in our ancestral house; I would dream through the haze of alluring smell, while the tinkling of bells announced the returning of the herd to the village, farther away. Every week, we came down to this house for two days of solitude, to be with, what my father termed as his ‘nature time.’ However, when my grandparents slowly lost their confidence to stay alone, my father insisted that they come and stay in our house. My grandparents never really settled down, despite all the love and comfort that my parents tried to provide; they longed to be at their peaceful home while we wanted them to be at a place where medical attention and other facilities would be within reach. The best of both worlds was not easily available, because no one had the vision to plan it such.
When a friend bought a flat in one of the new housing schemes, in Kolkata, the first two years we would be terrified that he would call us home. In spite of a luxurious place, which promised great food, ambience and conversation, we shuddered at the idea of crossing the miles from mainland Kolkata, over terrain that was yet to shape up as commutable stretches, as the city makers were perhaps caught in the age-old debate of ‘ which comes first – the egg or the chicken?’
There is a highway just behind this house, in this far away land. Yesterday night I went to sit on the steps by the highway, to see the cars zooming by. Evening it had rained heavily and there was a fresh wind to soothe my senses. It was a strange feeling, sitting on strange steps, in a strange country, in the middle of the night. The music from the Chinese chimes hanging outside the house, combined seamlessly with the sounds of the cars. This house in this modern city was a haven of peace, while not failing to be away from facilities. Someone had the vision to plan it such.
Strange though it may seem, such modern world class planning that combines the dream of tranquility with modern resources is here for the take. The visionaries, in this case, did not fail to conceive the moments of beauty to fill your heart. Will you not take this chance to fill your senses with pleasure, while not having to worry about facilities of modern life?

Select from a Plethora of Options – Aspire to be Happy

Every human being desires for a corner of the world to call his own – his home. For most of us, the initial years of working life do not leave enough financial space to acquire this home. At times, issues of time and distance deter one from concentrating on building ones’ house. Whatever the reason, a readymade solution, built with functionality and aesthetic beauty in mind had not always been an available option.
My father, a government employee, had a plot of land, at a place on the outskirts of Calcutta. At that time, the suburbs lacked infrastructure and my parents always had the dream that once the connectivity and other facilities improved in that part of the world, they would build a small house with a garden. As I grew up and assimilated the concept, I added my visions of red-tiled roofs and covered porches (a contribution of the books in which I lived), to their little house with a garden. My mother would often detail the plants, which would be there in the front garden. They were mostly the ubiquitous flowering plants, ornamental and decorative leaves not being the norm of that time. As the dream grew bigger, a kitchen garden was added. We were reasonable enough to keep out the option of potatoes and onions, but rest of the green, red, yellow and white veggies all found their allotted spaces. We stayed in the government quarters for 25 years, 17 of them, as I grew up. My mother tended to the two-room quarter with the utmost of dedication and love, all the time dreaming of her own little house. Ultimately my father never had the time or the physical perseverance to employ contractors, monitor them through thick and thin and get the house going. He sold of the plot and bought a flat in Calcutta under the government housing scheme.
This is not a rare story. We still had the small piece of land to build our dreams; many had built it on thin air. There were others among father’s friends and our relatives, who spent the major chunk of their working life in rented flats, all the while accumulating the fund to buy a home. Options of loans and more importantly investing in something which you really liked from the word go, were not so bountiful. Builders created houses and flat schemes that were military in appearance, so regulated and uniform were their designing.
Today however aesthetically designed modern and functional houses, available under different specification, to suit individual budgets, are no longer a dream. While the basic infrastructure in the form of security, convenience, facilities, designing and utilities remain the same, you can choose from villas, row houses or differently sized apartments. Builders are conscious of customers’ requirements and the fact that visions have expanded with the world turning global. Today, within your reach are such world class facilities, visualised and executed by people, who believe that your happiness is their aspiration. Are you ready to find that happiness that you aspired?

Get the Wind in Your Sail – Tide over the Ebbs

Given an option, we would like to sail through life without a single cross wind catching our masts. That not being the case, we end up riding a crest at one moment, going down on ebb, the next. However much we are prepared for the ebbs, often we are caught with the wind blowing against our sails. A support at that moment can fill those sails once again and help us tide over the ebb with ease.
Emergencies, big or small, are part of life. As much as we would like to wish them away, they have an uncanny habit of appearing from time to time. Even with the best laid out plans, we are not left untouched. However, a well-planned support structure definitely makes the difference between making it or breaking down.
When going on a holiday, I like to plan the basic things such as stay, travel logistics, etc. Though my husband is a card-dependent person, with children and the elderly part of our holiday baggage, I prefer to carry cash. Last summer, leaving on a weekend trip, young and old packed in the car and waiting, I exclaimed. ‘Now what?’ was the unspoken look that I got. ‘Remember we have to withdraw cash,’ said I. And as luck would have it, both ATMs that were on the way, before we hit the NH, were non-functional – one waiting for cash refill, the other not a 24x7 counter. On the entire route, I scavenged small denominations of currency, from the young and old, making a mental note that this was never to be repeated. Machine banking, 24x7, is an essential support system that is now available right at your door.
Well, this was not a life and death situation. However, sometimes those situations also come. As happened one day with our security guard, who fell ill on duty. I took him to a doctor’s chamber, only to find that the morning visiting hours were over. Ferrying a sick man around, I wished there was some in-house medical care available. Such facility, with a 24x7 dispensary, an attending physician and a telemedicine tie with major hospitals of the city, is a wish no more.
Curdled milk and no masala tea in the morning? Sudden guests at home and you are low on stock? A 9 p.m. urge to have mango ice-cream? The party menu suddenly cries out for baby tomatoes, broccoli, yellow bell-pepper and mozzarella? Mom-in-laws ‘kayam churn’ is over and she has to have it every night? Racer gel ball pens for school tomorrow, sonny remembered at 8.30 sharp? Well, no more running to the nearby store (you are not sure if the guy has closed shop and gone for the day). You can now get it at a shopping centre, right there, right at your door!
It is this little wind to your sail that will help you to tide over emergencies, big and small; the best thing is someone is ready, here and now, to help you sail over those tight spots.

Walk that Extra Mile – Add Value to Your Life

There was a time, when we got what we paid for, and were happy with that. Cafes were not as ubiquitous, and we were happy drinking coffee, as and when available. The need for something extra – the ‘add on’ – had not been created. We always knew that the cake had an icing, but we never asked for some fresh fruits, as add-on.
In an age of product differentiation, value addition to any product or service, makes the customer come back for more. With quality being reproducible, it is that extra something that sets a product apart from its peers. In some cases, this extra something may account for more carbon footprints. However, the value additions that we are talking of here are to your living. These value additions are safe, environment-friendly and convenient, and the best part is that they come with little or at no extra cost. Beauty, they say, is in the eye of the beholder; ideas, we say, is in the eye of the visionary.
Some time back, with guests expected for dinner, the gas cylinder touched rock bottom. Despite several unsafe emergency maneuvers, it failed to empty the last few ounces of precious liquid. How I wished there was piped gas supply! How many times have you been rankled with inflated electric bills, the result of a faulty meter or the effects of human error? The fall-out of such an incident is not pleasant and an unwanted bother; you prayed for deliverance. That deliverance is here; pre-paid electric meter cards that can be topped-up like your cell card, based totally on pay-per-use! How does treated water supply sound? Wishful? These and many others are just examples of walking that extra mile, putting that extra effort and adding that extra value to your dream. Will you not say yes, if this is on offer?
Environmental sustainability is essential, as the dangers are real. So the best value additions happen, when we can give back to the earth what we relentlessly take from her. Sustainable energy and sustainable water are two very important areas of sustainable development. Fortunately, our city has 365 days of sunlight to make solar-enabled options a profitable, clean and green reality. So, with solar-powered street lights, you can add your effort to sustainability and save on electric bills. What do you say to a living style where rainwater will be harvested and waste water will be treated? Only that someone has already walked that extra mile for you!
As a discerning customer you know that the value of the fresh fruit on the icing will be much more than the mile you walk to get them. Your dream home is a part of this beautiful earth that you recreate to suit your blissful imagination. What if, someone had the vision to add value to your imagination? Walk that extra mile towards the vision; it’s worth it.

Live with Human Connect – Create Happiness

There was once a bumblebee; he went on a long journey to find a mythical flower that would bring happiness to all. He met the ant, busy with work, unaware of the world passing by; he met the spider, waiting patiently in his web, he knew not for what. Then he met the butterfly; happy with every flower that it sat on. Why are you so happy? asked the bee to the butterfly. Because, with every flower I am celebrating life, said the butterfly.
Life is a journey and to enjoy this journey without thinking of the destination is what gives a sense of fulfillment, vital to happiness. Along this journey, every point is a small destination that you arrive at, a small goal that you achieve. The first bud of the rose plant that you had planted, the joy on a face when you say, “and how are you today, my dear?”; all are small goals in the journey of life, bringing you dollops of happiness that collect to form that ocean of peace and tranquility inside you. And this is what will make you a successful and prosperous person; one who has the ability to give.
To build our happiness quotient, it is important to build human connect. Community life has several positives, which in our present nuclear existence we have lost out on. Our home is just not the best ‘brick and mortar’ structure that money can buy. Our home is also the people who live within that structure – our family; the people who live outside that structure – our friends and neighbours.  How nice it would be, if the environment outside the four walls of our house was as inviting?
The more we let the human connect grow, the richer we get in terms of our relationships, which at the end of the day is all we accumulate. And to let relationships grow, we need to come out of our personal spaces, our confined existences and extend ourselves to others. In this day, in this city, someone has build just the right setting to let you build that bridge of camaraderie. Community hall, where you can spend your evening with like-minded people, a library where you can spend hours in the companionable silence of other book lovers, a card-room that can be ringing with noise, fellowship and bonhomie, a mini-theatre where you can catch the Premier League matches, with others who share the same passion for football, a spa to chill out and catch on the latest gossip; the list is endless.
We are like this bumblebee; we are searching for a magical but illusive thing; some call it success, some call it prosperity and some others call it happiness. However, it is within us that lies the power to make the most of what life has to offer. Go for it now, build the human connect that is the ultimate quotient of happiness.

Live Life Kingsize – Build your Health Equity

There was a time when ‘virus’ was flu and ‘CD’ was a bank account; when instead of texting ‘how r u,’ you went to meet friends and family. However, to expect life to continue, as it was, is neither logical nor desirable. Technology has added value to life, but, as is true for every gain, there has been an accompanying loss.
Urban life has become easy, thanks to technology. There is telebanking, telebooking, telemarketing, teleconferencing, teleshopping, and a host of other tele-activities to make life multi-media centric. Staying glued to the monitor, whether at home or at office, is a common feature of modern lifestyle. This sedentary lifestyle is causing health problems through the world, cutting across all age groups. Obesity is a common problem among pre-teens and adolescents; who, in most urban homes, shuttle between various multi-media devices. People in their early twenties are reporting heart problems, which doctors opine is brought about with very less physical activity and intake of processed food. The common excuse – where is the time? How would you like if ‘time’ was built into your daily schedule?
If you have observed, people in our city drive down to areas such as Civil Lines; the green avenues and serene environment, here, entice you to be initiated into an early morning ritual of walking or jogging. It goes without saying that the environment in which you work, rest or spend your leisure, plays a very important role in making or breaking the pleasure factor of the activity. So, will it not be a privilege, if you have a tree-lined jogging track running just in front of your house?
Just as people differ, so do their requirements and choices; and for some the air-conditioned environment of a high-tech gymnasium is more attractive. It often happens that you register at a good gym, but end up going there only in the weekends! ‘Time’ is not the only scapegoat; it can always be new, innovative and sometimes improbable ones – the weather, wife’s elbow, or a neighbour’s visit. Imagine a modern gym, just across the road from your doorstep; excuses real and not-so-real will not be a hindrance to following a fitter lifestyle.
Since the bottom line is a healthy lifestyle, it is not always required that one has to sweat it out in a gym. Any physical activity, as simple as climbing the stairs or walking down a block from the car park, adds to health benefits. A game of tennis would be invigorating and energy giving. The trick is to adopt to change, in a way that negates the negative outcome of the change.
Outdoor and indoor options co-existing in the precincts of your home may sound wishful, but there are people you have planned to make this holistic environment real. Imagine a life, where you are thus spoilt for choices! So, why not built that health equity, which will see you through the years to come?

Your Sanctuary called Home – Rest Assured

From the time when men lived in caves, he has employed his mind to devise ways and means to secure his welfare. He used boulders to guard the entrance of the cave. Later, he trained animals such as dogs, to guard his home. Security of the home and hearth has been a priority, through the ages. A secure home is a happy home.

Have you ever watched ants scurrying busily with their tiny eggs during the monsoon season? They work in serious concentration, avoiding hurdles and making a beeline for their holes. They secure their babies from the coming rain. Young humming birds weave their tiny legs around the fabric of their nest, so that they do not fall off. So firm is their hold, that if lifted from the nest, most often the legs will be left behind. Observe the nest of a tailor bird. It weaves the leaves with thread, wool and dry grass. The tightly-woven home does not break, even if it falls to the ground. Across the animal world an overwhelming sense of responsibility is demonstrated where the home and the young are concerned.

Security is a normal instinct and human beings are no different. The evolution of early man from his nomadic ways to the present settled urban lifestyle was a result of various factors; prime among them was the urge to have a secure home – a sanctuary of peace and serenity. To think that your home is safe, even in your absence, leaves you mentally free to give total effort and concentration to you work. Securing the home keeps your loved ones safe. Will you not go for such an option today, right here, right now?
Living in an idyllic setting with modern comfort is desirable; however, it is not the be all of a dream life. Studies have revealed that a miscreant attempts to attack a house only after studying the behavioural pattern of the people living in the house, the degree of security measures that the house owner has taken and the composition of the neighbourhood.
Since security is a very practical concern, it is desirable that when you plan your dream home, you go for the very best that latest technology has to offer, without burning a hole in your pocket. Your dreams also need to be safe! Home alarms, personal emergency alerts, closed circuit TV, card access systems, 24/7 security at your township gate, intercom connection, and much more are available today and conscientious modern builders provide these facilities. Would you not like a security this secure? What if someone took care of all these details? To create a tranquil world for you, where your nights and days would be peaceful, with no worries about any strangers at your door?  This actually is no dream, but a pleasant reality.

Make your Valley Green – Breathe Free

Our Earth is an inheritance bequeathed to us; one which we will pass on to the next generation. Let not those who take over be left with an empty shell. We have not been kind to nature’s bounties; but all is not over. There is time to recreate our green spaces.
My grandfather spent most of his life tending a small patch of garden at home. The shrubs and bushes were far from exotic. My father, as a young boy, planted a Gulmohar tree. Then came the palms, three of them, a few creepers, including the ever-popular money plant, and so on. We as children were given a tiny patch, to hone our green thumb. We planted the seeds of the fruits and vegetables that came home. Most germinated, but after sometime withered off from lack of proper conditions. But the first green sprigs, as they burst open from the brown earth, were magical moments of creation, for us.  There was a gardener, who came thrice a week; rest of the days my father watered the plants, deeply breathing in the earthy smell of the moist soil. Our green space provided all of us with life.
The pleasures of a garden, the tranquility of flower beds and the pleasantness of fresh cool breeze rustling through the trees – we all wish it, but urban life usually cannot afford this luxury. Green spaces not only contrast and soften the perfectly defined lines of urban concrete structures, but are also the manifestation of aesthetic appreciation of nature. However, designing a well-planned comfortable house with adequate green space is not easy and hence precious. It is valued and is premium. It needs planning, driven by a passion to provide the best. Would it not be nice if somebody could do that for you?
One of the best ways to approach the issues of sustainability and environment friendly construction is by planning for enough green space, which will let the earth breathe. The building and construction industry, across the world, is changing its ways to meet this demand. The task is not impossible and has been made easy by the fact that buyers have now realized that the best thing about buying a sustainable home is that it saves more in the long run than it costs in the short run.
A beautiful surrounding brings positive energy, vigour and good health and given an option we would all go for it. An avenue around the neighbourhood, where children can play in safety, a front garden where basking on a winter morning will be pleasurable, a sculptured lawn where patches of white and yellow daisies contrast with the  orange blossoms of Watsonia and merge with the tranquil white of Gardenia; the options are here and now!

A Lifestyle of Elegant Comfort – You Deserve It

There comes a point in life, when your efforts find success and recognition. When the world looks up to you, admire you and take you as a role model. Your home, your family, and your lifestyle have to compliment that admiration. You deserve that life of quite convenience and elegant comfort; so why wait?
Life can now go beyond the wistful thought of ‘what if.’  There should be a point in life, when you can stop, take a deep breathe and say ‘I deserve.’  I deserve to relax, I deserve to enjoy and I deserve to give. The tree-lined avenues, sculptured lawns, perfectly structured beautiful houses, spotless streets, an ambient life – you deserve it all.
The good thing is that all these elements of elegant comfort is available and affordable; places where you can enjoy a plethora of activities, appreciating the gift of life and living. A game of cards, maybe shooting pool, or watching the recent movie, at a conveniently located mini theatre, all under one-roof – sounds wishful? Not anymore. Because you deserve it and you wish it, you will get it.
Remember that trip abroad? The neighbourhood public library where you have spent blissful moments of solitude, immersed in a book. How you wished, then, for such a well-stocked comfortable library back home. Or the azure-blue hotel swimming pool where you enjoyed a good ten laps and thought dismally about the unhygienic pool at the local club. That small café, were you drowned cups of the heavenly brew, lazily contemplating the world go by, watching the swaying palms and breathing the fresh aroma of nature. How you marveled at the piped gas, electric metre-cards and wooden floors of the studio apartment that you had rented! Well, those trips abroad may not be the only time, when such pleasures will be available. Why not make your own home in the midst of a lifetime of such convenience and comfort?
Experts say that there are three things that ready a home for a lifetime –easy visiting, easy living and easy maintenance. Most of the time, we never pay attention to all three aspects. You dream home is where you will return everyday, where your children will grow up and your parents will age; so why compromise?
There comes a point in life, when your efforts find success and recognition. When the world looks up to you, admire you and take you as a role model. Your home, your family, and your lifestyle have to compliment that admiration. You have always searched for that place, which you can call ‘home.’ the warmth of that safe and secure zone – a space in this vast world just for you. Now that you have the means, go for that dream.

The Present is Right Here Right Now – Savour It

As the world is evolving into a Global village, everything around us is changing. While we are running with time, it is our lifestyle that has got affected. Our perspectives have changed. Our visions are limited, stressed and skewed. We have become confined to little spaces of our careers, families and self interest. Life has taken an ‘instant’ tag; something that has to be chased and achieved today. When was it last that you stopped to watch the setting sun, or turned back to smile at the boy who once upon a time polished your shoes or stopped on the highway when you saw another car with a flat tire? If you did not do all this, it was not your fault. You were always rushing from one thing to the other and ‘there was no time.’ Will it not be a great thing if you had time? Time to stop and feel life?
Our career, performance and success are important; however, they are not what we are living for. What do you do with success, if you do not have the time to lie on your back under a sky full of stars? What do you do with performance, when you are not able to attend your daughter’s valediction ceremony? What is the point in having a brilliant career, when your doctor has cautioned you against the stress that you are taking? After all, we strive to make our lives’ better.
So, what is the definition of a better life? Imagine a life where you can start your day with a healthy walk in a serene locale and end your day in the cozy confines of your family and friends. A life where you do not have to rush to work, early in the morning, so that you can avoid the heavy traffic. A life where you need to manage only your work, and not burden yourself with issues related to your home, knowing that your loved ones are in trusting care. A life where a guest or friend, dropping in, is welcome, as it does not throw your routine out of gear. A life where you do not have to plan small recreations such as eat-outs or movies, because someone had the foresight to make this available at your convenience.
Happiness comes from within, so the experts say. Having said this, can we ignore the fact that our environment is a prime contributor to our happy existence? By environment I mean both our natural and artificial environment. The nip of an early Winter morning, the waft of an earthy Monsoon wind, or the lightness of a Spring breeze that teases you in the evening; imagine a life when you can experience nature in all its beautiful hues. And, when man adds his creativity to nature’s splendor, the experience can only be treasured.
All of us dream of such a life; we get transported into quaint little towns, where the dream merchants of the country shoot their movies. The tree-lined avenues, sculptured lawns, perfectly structured beautiful houses, spotless streets, babies on the lawns, dogs on the front porch, children playing ball, women doing an unhurried shopping in the local store; a fairy tale setting we murmur happily, as we troop out of theatres and out of those dream hours, wistfully thinking, “what if!”
